Dr. Kelly MacArthur Joins United Skin Specialists

We are excited to announce the addition of Dr. Kelly MacArthur to the United Skin Specialists team!

Dr. MacArthur is now seeing patients at our Skin Care Center of Southern Illinois Glen Carbon location.

Dr. MacArthur is an Ivy League fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon. She specializes in skin cancer surgery with reconstruction and procedural dermatology. A St. Louis native, she received her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis where she was a two-time NCAA All-American in swimming. She earned her MD degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. A recipient of a year-long NIH T32 oncology research fellowship, she investigated circulating tumor cells, developing and validating a novel protocol to detect them in patients. Dr. MacArthur piloted three prospective clinical studies with her work culminating in multiple national presentations and first-authored publications in top oncology journals, including Cancer Research and Cancer.

Following two years of internal medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, she received her dermatology residency training at Johns Hopkins University where she served as chief resident and won numerous awards for her clinical care and research. Dr. MacArthur completed fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, receiving surgical training in cutaneous oncology. Her training entailed resection and reconstruction of complex, high-risk, and rare skin cancers of the head and neck, trunk, and extremities.

She was an assistant professor of dermatologic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, serving as the primary surgeon at the Barnes Jewish Hospital. She co-led a national multi-disciplinary team of Mohs surgeons and radiation oncologists from thirteen top institutions to develop consensus recommendations on the treatment of skin cancer during the COVID pandemic. This influential study was published in the journal, Cancer.

Dr. MacArthur is passionate about patient care and improving patient outcomes. She has served as a representative on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), as a session moderator for the ACMS annual meeting, and as a session director for the ASDS annual meeting.
